The team at Hennessey has put together a wicked performance package for the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, one which adds twin turbochargers to the factory supercharger setup for a peak output of 1,032 horsepower and just as much “wow factor” as any car on the road.
Since the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat first hit the streets, we have been talking about the shops around the country working to get even more power out of the supercharged 6.2L Hellcat Hemi. We have seen some shops focus on quarter mile times with results well into the 9-second range and we have seen other shops focus on the horsepower figures.
The folks at Hennessey have taken both of those factors into consideration with their HPE1000 Twin Turbo package for the Hellcat Challenger, with a combined triple-charged induction setup lifting the output up over the 1,000 horsepower mark. That’s right – the HPE1000 Challenger SRT Hellcat is twin turbocharged and supercharged, with the total engine horsepower jumping from 707 to 1,032 while torque output climbed from 650 to 987lb-ft
The HPE1000 Hellcat Challenger
Yesterday morning, the Hennessey Facebook page posted a fairly innocent-looking image, showing a Hellcat Challenger with the headlights on. You really can’t see much in the picture, but the real story came in the description. With this image, Hennessey Performance announced that their HPE1000 Twin Turbo package for the Hellcat Challenger has become available for purchase – but the package is limited to just 12 units.
The Hennessey HPE1000 package for the Hellcat Challenger is surprisingly brief, simply adding a twin turbo setup, a high volume fuel system and an engine tune to create the advertised 1,032hp and 987lb-ft of torque. By brief, I mean that this package doesn’t require opening up the engine, so other than the turbocharging system and the fuel system, the actual engine of the Hellcat Challenger is pretty much stock.
The meat of this kit is the pair of ball bearing turbochargers with a high volume air to water intercooler system, stainless steel turbo headers and all of the piping needed to move the air into the turbos, through the piping, through the intercooler and into the supercharger – where it is compressed even further. With the high volume fuel system, Hennessey was able to dial this triple-charged system up to 15psi and with that compressed air being forced into the engine with 93 octane Shell gasoline, the HPE1000 Challenger produces 1,032 horsepower and 987lb-ft of torque.
When the Hennessey team tested the HPE1000 Hellcat Challenger with a set of sticky drag radial tires, they were able to lay down 0-60 times of just 2.7 seconds while running through the quarter mile in just 9.9 seconds at 142 miles per hour.
The only bad news here is that Hennessey is limiting the production of the HPE1000 Hellcat Challenger package to just 12 units, so if you have one of the factory supercharged Mopar muscle cars and you would like to turn heads with a unique triple-charging system from Hennessey – you should probably reach out to them ASAP to place your order.
