A passer-by in Messina, Sicily, southern Italy, rescued an abandoned dog that had been cruelly tied up, placed in a garbage bag, and dumped in a bin. Emilia Lucchese and her friend, Enrica Bianchi, were walking through the streets when they heard the terrified cries of the dog. They immediately opened the bin and were horrified to find the brown dog inside, wrapped in a black plastic bag and its legs tightly bound with wire.

In a heartwarming turn of events, the compassionate individuals who rescued the dog have decided to adopt it. Reflecting on the incident, Ms. Lucchese, who later named the dog Oliviero, shared her initial reaction upon hearing the dog’s cries emanating from the trash bin. “I suspected that the dog might have accidentally become trapped while scavenging for food, and someone had inadvertently closed the lid,” she recounted.

Rescue: Upon opening the bin lid, the women were startled to find a brown dog resting inside, wrapped in a black plastic bag. One of the women quickly provided water from a bottle to the severely dehydrated animal. “As soon as I opened it, I noticed movement within the plastic bin liner, and it became evident that it was the animal,” she explained.
Upon extracting it, we were astounded to discover the frightened dog had its limbs bound with wire, presumably in an attempt to prevent its escape. Additionally, she expressed, “The poor creature was in a state of shock and desperately dehydrated, leading me to believe it had been confined for quite some time. It only began to recover after we administered water from a bottle directly into its mouth.”
Before posting the jaw-dropping footage online, Ms. Lucchese and Ms. Bianchi captured their daring rescue of Oliviero on video.
After rapidly gaining popularity on Italian social media platforms, the short film made its way into the pages of local newspapers. Consequently, Italian authorities have initiated an investigation and are seeking assistance from the public to gather information about the dog’s previous guardians.
This animal, captured in a photo just moments after being discovered, had its legs cruelly bound with wire, rendering it extremely weak and barely able to lift its head. However, it has now made a remarkable recovery and has found a loving home with its courageous rescuers.
