Following her rescue, Nanook received medical attention from a veterinarian who uncovered that the muscles in her legs had atrophied. This indicated prolonged confinement, presumably within a crate, where she spent extended periods in her own filth. Remarkably, despite the pain and torment she had endured, Nanook remained an incredibly sweet puppy, her spirit undiminished, with a smile on her face and love to bestow.
The path to recovery was arduous and demanding, but we began witnessing gradual progress in Nanook. Both her physical and emotional wounds were slowly healing. She embraced her daily physical therapy and medication, finding joy in her newfound toy, perhaps the first she had ever known.
Nanook was a tenacious fighter, and after two weeks, she could stand and take a few steps. It was a poignant sight, watching her grapple with maintaining her balance, but her determination shone brightly. Her infectious smile and affectionate nature never wavered. Her transformation was nothing short of remarkable, as she gained 5 kilos and displayed a vastly improved appearance.
While Nanook still had a long road ahead, she made strides with each passing day. Relearning to walk was a challenging endeavor, but with unwavering support, she achieved the monumental milestone of taking her first steps outdoors. Although she tired quickly and required extended rests, her undeniable progress filled us with hope.
In the subsequent week, Nanook’s condition improved significantly. She navigated on her own, albeit with a hint of unsteadiness, but her confidence grew by leaps and bounds. Witnessing her remarkable journey, covering substantial ground in such a brief span, was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Nanook’s story epitomizes love and hope, a testament to the resilience of animals and the profound impact of care and compassion.
